Skiing

The largest local ski resort is at Vogel, halfway along the south side of Lake Bohinj (approx 25 minutes drive). There are a number of intermediate runs here plus some nice restaurants for lunch. Even if you’re not skiing, it’s worth a trip up to Vogel in the Cable Car – extremely steep with spectacular views!

There is also a smaller resort at Kobla (next to Bohinjska Bistrica) though this is currently under re-development.

More locally, there are some small ski runs on the Pokljuka plateau – great for children and for a quick skiing session with lunch. Only 10 minutes drive from the house, both Jelka and the Sport Hotel have ski facilities, including sledge hire from Jelka hotel and occasional ski hire from the hut at the bottom of the slope. If this is closed, skis can be hired at the Kompas shop in Bled.

For more extensive skiing, Kranjska Gora is the largest resort in Slovenia, and is around an hour’s drive away.
